CRANFORD—The Friends of the Cranford Public Library will sponsor Raconteur Radio’s presentation of “Sherlock Holmes and the Final Problem,” a radio play featuring theatrical lighting, costumes, and, of course, extensive sound effects.
The program will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the Cranford Community Center, which is located at 220 Walnut Avenue. Admission to the program is free and all are welcome. This marks Raconteur Radio’s third recent appearance in Cranford, where the Friends of the Library have also sponsored the troupe’s presentations of children’s and young adult programs.
“The Final Problem” is the last of the short stories from The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and was first published in The Strand Magazine in December 1893. Conan Doyle later ranked “The Final Problem” fourth on his personal list of the twelve best Holmes stories. When Conan Doyle wrote it, he intended it to be the last Sherlock Holmes story. “The Final Problem” puts Holmes’ skills to the test as he matches wits with Professor James Moriarty, the greatest criminal mind in England. Could this be the end of Sherlock Holmes?
