LINDEN — Lt. j.g. Thomas Callahan, a 2006 Linden High School graduate, was the commanding officer in his senior year in the NJROTC program. He now serves on the Navy’s newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.

After graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 2010, Callahan completed his first sea tour on the USS Simpson (FFG 56) where he received his Surface Warfare Officer qualification and completed a 6-month deployment to West Africa and Europe.

In 2012, he was promoted to Lt. junior grade and attended the Navy’s 24-week Nuclear Power School in Charleston, S.C. followed by 24-weeks of hands-on training at the Nuclear Power Training Unit in Ballston Spa, N.Y. On Sept. 27, Callahan completed his training and has been assigned as an Engineering Division Officer on the Navy’s newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), in Norfolk, Va.
