CLARK — The Crusader Athletic Leadership Council is an organization at Arthur L. Johnson High School in Clark that has been founded to help educate student athletes on some of the expectations that coaches have for them as they compete interscholastically in a variety of athletics. The program’s goal is to foster an open and healthy relationship among the student athletes, the school culture, and the community of Clark.

The organization will meet monthly and will discuss a variety of topics and issues. Future meeting will include guest speakers, coaches and administrators of the Clark School District, a visit to the Children’s Hospital, and more.

The C.A.L.C.’s first meeting of the school year was held on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The C.A.L.C. was Mike Miello, former head coach of William Paterson football team and former assistant coach at Rutgers University for four seasons, spoke about leadership as it pertains to all student athletes. Miello has been inducted into the New Jersey Football Coaches Association, New Jersey Interscholastic Coaches and Ramapo High School Halls of Fame.

The Crusader Athletic Leadership Council thanked Miello for coming to Arthur L. Johnson High School to share some of his ideas on leadership.

Gus Kalikas, Supervisor of Athletics, Health, and Physical Education in the Clark School District, said, “The C.A.L.C. would like to thank Coach Miello for coming in to share his thoughts on leadership. His vast experience, including his work with former Rutgers Head Coach and current Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Greg Schiano, was not only interesting, but useful in our quest to develop better leaders among our student athletes.”
