Police Chase Ends When Suspect Crashes Into Turnpike Median

police-tapeELIZABETH – A suspected felon crashed into a toll-booth median at New Jersey Turnpike Interchange 13 this morning, ending a four-mile police pursuit, according to a Star-Ledger report.

Qawwee McQueen, 35, of Newark was wanted in connection with a February shooting in Elizabeth, the report said.

Police saw McQueen get into his vehicle on Fulton Street, but officers were unsuccessful in getting him to stop. The suspect allegedly hit a marked police cruiser on purpose at Spring and Jersey streets, injuring a detective, according to the report. The detective was taken to a nearby hospital for observation.

The charges against McQueen are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
