Metuchen High School Wins ShopRite Cup

METUCHEN — During halftime of the football game between Metuchen High School and Cardinal McCarrick on Friday, Oct. 4, the ShopRite Cup was awarded to Metuchen High School Athletics, for the third time in the past seven years.

Six cups (one per group) are awarded at the conclusion of competition for Fall, Winter and Spring based on most points earned during state championship competition. The award went to Metuchen High School for having the most postseason success among Group I high schools statewide in 2012-13 NJSIAA Tournament competition.

Metuchen previously received the honor, which is predicated upon advancement to sectional and group championships, for its on-field accomplishments in 2006-07 and 2007-08. Last academic year, the Bulldogs claimed group championships in girls cross country, girls winter track and golf. Metuchen also won sectional titles in boys cross country, girls tennis and boys winter track. In previous years, Metuchen scored Shop Rite Cup points in football, soccer, basketball and other sports, reflecting the school’s overall athletic success.
