CRANFORD – Sign ups are open for weekend programs offered for youth ages 11 – 17 on Union County College’s Cranford campus. Both academic and recreational classes will be offered and most classes start in early February and will take place on Saturday mornings.

A series of test-prep classes will be offered for youth over 14 including SAT prep and the College Math Preparation course called Knewton Math Readiness. The SAT class will be offered for both verbal and math sections and this test prep course will teach important test-taking strategies. These classes will be taught by experienced NJ-certified teachers. The Knewton Math Readiness course is a web-based adaptive math preparation program, which allows students to work at their own pace, skip material they know and to focus on mastering what they do not know. These test prep classes start throughout October.

For students ages 11 -13, additional classes offered include The Artist Within, Design Your Own Comic Book, Guitar (Beginning and Intermediate), Graffiti Art/Design Projects, Reading Enhancement, and Pre-Algebra with Word Problems.

For students ages 14 – 17, classes offered include Write for College, Be a Leader: The Competitive Edge, Teen Finance Workshops (includes basic banking, balancing a budget, and credit cards and credit scores), and ServSafe for Teens. A new class, Write for College, helps students hone their writing skills in preparation for college and also teaches how to avoid plagiarism, conduct online research, and organize ideas for effective writing.

All classes are affordable and are taught by highly qualified instructors, most of whom are NJ-certified school teachers. The College’s Cranford campus is located at 1033 Springfield Avenue. To sign up, call (908) 709-7600 or visit the Continuing Education offices in Cranford or Elizabeth. To see the youth programs brochure with complete course information visit www.ucc.edu/noncredit.
