Benedictine Students Walk To Raise Money For American Cancer Society


ELIZABETH — Senior students (pictured) from Benedictine Academy in Elizabeth gathered prior to the start of their annual three-mile Cancer Walkathon through the communities of Elizabeth and Hillside on October 2. The event was organized by the school’s Portuguese/American Club. The young women have raised almost $2000 so far, which will go to the American Cancer Society. Donations are still coming in and will continue to be counted until the end of October. Benedictine Academy is an all-female Catholic college prep secondary school.

Nearly two hundred students, faculty, and staff from Benedictine Academy in Elizabeth were energized as they walked on October 2 to raise money to help fund cancer research. The group is pictured walking out of the Academy and down Bauer Terrace in Hillside at the start of the event. Participants then wound their way down Salem Avenue and Conant Street in Hillside and back during the three-mile trek. Funds raised from the event will go to the American Cancer Society.

Eleventh grade students from Benedictine Academy, (l-r) Marissa Miller, Eileen Conaty and Stephanie Guzman, walked for an important cause on October 2. Their school’s annual Cancer Walkathon event helped raise nearly $2000 which will go to the American Cancer Society.


Freshmen Kayla DaCruz and Joyce Mallare were creative while walking in their school’s (Benedictine Academy, Elizabeth) annual Walkathon to raise funds to fight cancer. The pair shared one set of earbuds to listen to music during the three-mile trek on October 2.

Members of the Portuguese-American Club at Benedictine Academy gathered during a break at Conant Park in Hillside during their school’s annual Cancer Walkathon. The Club organizes the fundraising event each year.
