UNION COUNTY – Merck announced today that the company would be moving its world headquarters from Readington Township to Kenilworth, according to a Hunterdon County Democrat report.
The company had announced plans to relocate its headquarters to Summit last year, but will instead close that facility and relocate the Animal Health and Consumer Care divisions there, according to the report.
Summit Mayor Ellen Dickson expressed shock at the news, but told NJ.com, “The Summit campus is a highly desirable location and never stays available for long. We are optimistic that Merck’s departure will be another company’s gain.”
The pharmaceutical firm also reportedly plans to cut 8,500 jobs, but has not said how many will be in New Jersey.
