PERTH AMBOY – The Jewish Renaissance Medical Center in Perth Amboy is helping to lead the effort to get eligible New Jersey residents to apply for health insurance in the new marketplace established by the federal Affordable Care Act.
The agency has two navigators working to inform people in the Perth Amboy and Newark areas about the new exchange, which will open on Oct. 1. The program is scheduled to begin offering health care coverage on Jan. 1. New Jersey has three companies that will provide plans on the Health Insurance Exchange: Horizon, Amerihealth and Health Republic of New Jersey.
According to information released this week by the federal Department of Health and Human Services, the average premium for the lowest-cost silver plan in New Jersey will be $382 and for the lowest cost bronze plan it will be $332. Plans in the Marketplace will be categorized as either “gold,” “silver,” or “bronze,” depending on the benefits they offer. Young adults will also have the option of purchasing a “catastrophic” plan. Tax credits will lower the cost of insurance for lower income residents.
