Update: The Perth Amboy Board of Education approved the program through an email vote, according to an NJ.com report.
PERTH AMBOY – A popular afterschool program could be cancelled if the Perth Amboy Board of Education does not approve its $535,000 federal funding grant before Oct. 1, according to an NJ.com report.
The school board unexpectedly cancelled its Sept. 19 meeting and does not have another one scheduled before the deadline, prompting parents to petition the NJ Commissioner of Education for emergent relief, according to the report.
“The foregoing circumstances are not an exception, but rather a predictable result of the board of education’s reckless disregard for their duty to our children that has characterized their conduct over the last two years,” the petition said according to the report.
