MIDDLESEX COUNTY — The Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Middlesex County Coalition of Safe Kids Worldwide, is offering car seat safety inspections from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Brunswick Town Center, on the corner of Jersey Avenue and Handy Street in New Brunswick

The event is being held during National Child Passenger Safety Week and Child Passenger Safety Month.

“Child Passenger Safety Month puts the spotlight on the importance of properly securing all children in appropriate child safety seats, booster seats or seat belts – on every trip, every time,” said Middlesex County Sheriff Mildred S. Scott. “We perform these free safety checks throughout the year, but by participating in this campaign, we help spread the national message as well.”

“Nothing is more important than the safety of the families who live and travel throughout Middlesex County,” said Middlesex County Freeholder H. James Polos, chair of the County’s Public Safety and Health Committee. “The car seat checks help ensure that our youngest citizens are properly secured, potentially preventing injuries.”

Safe Kids, Middlesex County is part of the National Safe Kids Campaign, and is affiliated with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. The Sheriff’s Office participates in various car seat safety events in conjunction with Safe Kids, Middlesex County throughout the year.

In addition, car safety seat inspections also are conducted at the Sheriff’s Office at 701 Livingston Ave. in New Brunswick, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All inspections are completed by officers certified as Car Seat Safety Technicians.

“I encourage families to come out to this safety event,” said Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios. “If you are unable to get to the event this weekend, please take advantage of one of the other opportunities to get the seats checked. It’s a free service that can have so many dividends.”

Two more events will be scheduled to be held in Middlesex County this fall. For more information, contact the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office at 732-745-3271 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
