Newsboys Gets A “Restart” At The State Theatre Next Sunday

Newsboys will play at The State Theatre in New Brunswick on Sunday, Sept. 22, as part of their “Restart” tour.

NEW BRUNSWICK – Newsboys, a Christian pop rock band that’s been nominated for four Grammy awards, will be playing at the State Theatre in New Brunswick on Sunday, Sept. 22, one of the first stops on their Restart tour.

The show will include a mix of new songs, likely including the band’s new single “Live With Abandon” and the title track of Newsboys’ latest album, Restart, along with old favorites.

Restart is the result of two years of work. “Christian music is really the only genre that’s characterized more by the lyrical content than the musical content, but Restart  stands up to any commercial pop that’s out there,” said keyboardist Jeff Frankenstein.

Frankenstein, who’s been a part of the band since the mid-1990s, says that music provides a different way to communicate the Gospel. “We’re not preachers. Our music just comes from what we’ve found in our faith,” he said.

Frankenstein dropped out of college to join Newsboys, but he says that he can’t imagine doing anything else. “I love what I do,” he said. “Being able to make people happy by doing something I love is the best part of the job.”

Newsboys also includes lead singer Michael Tait, guitarist Jody Davis and drummer Duncan Phillips.

The Newsboys “Restart Tour” will also feature For King & Country, Moriah Peters, and Rapture Ruckus. Tickets for the 7 p.m. Sept. 22 New Brunswick show are priced from $28-$52 and are available at or by calling 732-560-4000. The State Theatre is located at 11 Livingston Avenue.
