CRANFORD – Renato Franco-Rosas, a student at Union County College was selected to participate in the 2013 Hispanic College Quiz, which was taped last month in Chicago. The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Central City Productions partnered to create the “Hispanic College Quiz” show series.
The show features Hispanic college students answering a series of multiple-choice questions on Latino history. This year’s series will consist of four half hour quiz shows that will air across the country, Sept. 15 – Oct. 15, during Hispanic Heritage Month.
Franco-Rosas is a Title V student at Union County College. He serves as a Supplemental Instruction Facilitator in the College’s Academic Learning Center for mathematics. He is also a peer tutor in the College’s Math Success Center. Franco-Rosas has participated in various community service projects, including one in which he worked with other students to organize a dinner to collect school supplies for students affected by Hurricane Sandy. Franco-Rosas expects to graduate in May 2014 and plans to transfer to a four-year institution to study business finance or accounting.
Franco-Rosas was coached by Professor Katy Cedano, who serves as the advisor for the College’s Hispanic Cultural Society. Prof. Cedano is actively involved with planning programming for National Hispanic Serving Institution’s Week.
