SPRINGFIELD-Local author Natasha Scott will talk to parents and students about the college admissions process on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at the Springfield Free Public Library. She recently published a book entitled The College Admissions Bible: Everything You Need to Know About Applying to College.
Born and raised in Springfield, Scott is a 2011 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in communications and cinema studies. She is also a graduate of Kent Place School in Summit, a small all-girls college preparatory high school.
Scott was extremely involved in her high school’s community. By her senior year, she served as an officer on the Black Cultural Association, the captain of Pep Squad, the Entertainment Editor for the school newspaper, and a class representative for the Community Service Committee. She even enrolled in SAT prep courses from her freshman year and started touring colleges from her sophomore year. As a result of her commitment to working the college admission process to her best advantage and as early as possible, Scott was considered a well-rounded candidate for many of the nation’s top universities. She accepted early admission to the University of Pennsylvania and was able to enjoy her senior year of high school stress free.
Scott will explain the difference between the SAT and ACT and which test is right for you, how to maximize your relationship with your guidance counselor, the importance of considering going away to college, a strategy to come up with a list of colleges to apply to, how to write a memorable college application essay, how exactly to apply for financial aid and what a “financial aid package” is, and how to graduate college debt free. Copies of the book will be available for purchase after the program.
