PLAINFIELD — A Newark man has been arrested and charged with the 2005 homicide of a Plainfield woman, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Monday.

Dorian Gillon, 49, formerly of Plainfield, is charged with murder in connection with the beating and strangulation death of Williametta Moore. Bail for Gillon was set at $1 million, cash only, by state Superior Court Judge Frederic R. McDaniel.

The body of Moore, who was 39 at the time of her death, was found just inside the front door of her home on West Third Street in Plainfield on Dec. 15, 2005, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Bruce Holmes. Detectives learned that Gillon was living in the same neighborhood, about a block away, at the time.

Union County Homicide Task Force investigators, acting at the direction of Holmes, worked closely with the Biology Section of the county’s Forensics Laboratory in examining previously collected DNA evidence. Gillon was arrested without incident Monday in Elizabeth.

“This case is a good example of the value of perseverance in investigating crimes that initially go unsolved,” Park said Monday. “The public should know that we are committed to continuing to examine cold cases in an effort to bring crime victims and their families justice.”

These criminal charges are mere accusations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
