Perth Amboy Superintendent To Leave At End Of School Year

PERTH AMBOY – After two years of nearly continuous battles with the Board of Education, Perth Amboy Superintendent Janine Caffrey will finish out the final year of her contract and seek a new job.

Last week, school board President Mark Carvajal announced that the board would begin the search process for a superintendent and Caffrey could reapply for her job if she wished.

In an open letter to Perth Amboy that she sent to, Caffrey wrote: “It is clear that a majority of BOE members are not supportive of offering me a new contract. The people of Perth Amboy elected these officials to make this decision, and I respect their decision. Therefore, I will not be applying for my own position. I will continue working to the very best of my ability and focus on the students and families I serve, through my last day in Perth Amboy.”
