Newark Woman’s Body Found In South Plainfield

SOUTH PLAINFIELD — Authorities announced Friday that the body recovered from a wooded section of South Plainfield on Aug. 18 is a 39-year-old Newark woman.

Erica McCord was identified through fingerprint records, according to Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief James Parker of the South Plainfield Police Department.

The investigation began on Aug. 18 at 12:13 p.m. when a man working in the area discovered the body in the woods near South Clinton Avenue and Gardner Avenue and contacted police.

The cause of death remained under investigation Friday. Police were awaiting the results of toxicological testing that has been ordered by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office.
