METUCHEN – Republican U.S. Senate candidate Steve Lonegan picked up endorsements from both U.S. Senator Jeff Chiesa and Congressman Chris Smith on Wednesday.
Chiesa said, “Steve Lonegan has been a consistent voice for individual liberty, limited government, and reforms to expand opportunity and grow our economy. I look forward to joining Steve over the next weeks as he shares his vision for a freer, more prosperous nation with New Jerseyans.”
Lonegan said, “I am proud to be endorsed by Senator Chiesa, who is fighting government overreach and the Obamacare monstrosity trying to take over healthcare in our country. I am grateful for his support of my campaign, and I look forward to working with him in the coming months.”
Smith said, “Steve Lonegan has shown himself over the many years to be a tireless campaigner against reckless spending. He has been a very effective voice for years in pointing out that it is absolutely unsustainable to carry [a debt of almost 17 trillion dollars]. Steve was a very early and very articulate spokesman in pointing out the egregious flaws of [Obamacare]. It is an honor to endorse him.”
Lonegan said, “I am thrilled to have Congressman Smith’s endorsement for this race for the United States Senate. I appreciate his long record of standing for conservative values in the Senate, especially his fight to respect the sanctity of human life. I look forward to joining him in Washington, D.C. to continue this fight.”
Lonegan is opposed by Newark Mayor Cory Booker in the Oct. 16 special election to fill the remaining 15 months of the late U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg’s term.
Lonegan served as Bogota Mayor for twelve years, winning three times in a town that gave Barack Obama 67.5 percent of the vote in 2012. He served for seven years as state director of Americans for Prosperity New Jersey, where he helped defeat liberal attempts to expand big government. Steve Lonegan is the conservative Republican candidate in the New Jersey special election for the United States Senate. Lonegan stands firmly on the bedrock conservative values of small government, fiscal responsibility and individual liberty.
