NEWARK – The 2013 Street League Skateboarding (SLS) Nike SB World Tour, the premier professional street skateboarding series, will cap off an amazing season with its winner-take-all Super Crown World Championship at Prudential Center in Newark on Sunday, Aug. 25.
Fans will experience Prudential Center’s transformation into an authentic urban streetscape, complete with a custom concrete skate plaza inside the arena, as the most recognizable street skateboarding stars compete for the $200,000 first-place prize.
With eight SLS championship contenders throwing down for the huge prize purse, all eyes will be on the battle between 18-year-old rising star Nyjah Huston and veteran Nike SB pro Paul Rodriguez (P-Rod). The two pros represent the best of the best in street skateboarding, and their season-long competitive battle will reach its peak in Newark.
P-Rod recently claimed his first win of the season in Portland to go along with multiple runner-up finishes, while Nyjah returned from injury to win in Los Angeles, along with wins at the Kansas City, Barcelona and Brazil stops. Taking a big win at the Street League at X Games in Munich, two-time Thrasher Magazine Skater of the Year and skateboard legend Chris Cole could also turn up the heat and give them both a run for their money.
Known as the most significant competitive face-off in skateboarding today, the coming Super Crown World Championship represents the moment of truth when each pro’s 2013 performance could become cemented in history.
The winner also walks away with the $100,000 Nixon Championship Watch and Ring. The event will be broadcast live on Aug. 25 on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at http://www.prucenter.com and www.streetleague.com.
