PERTH AMBOY — A Perth Amboy man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 37-year-old city resident, Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Benjamin Ruiz of the Perth Amboy Police Department announced.
Dana Kearney, 31, was arrested on Sunday, Aug. 18, at a home in Plainfield and was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Kearney is accused of fatally stabbing Christopher Sharp, 37, of Perth Amboy. The victim was pronounced dead in a house on William Street in Perth Amboy after police were called at 1:57 a.m. on Aug. 18.
An investigation by Detective Marcos Valera of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Investigator Jose Rodriguez of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office led to the arrest of Kearney, who was apprehended at 7:41 p.m. on Aug. 18.
Kearney remains in custody and is waiting for bail to be set, authorities said.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Kearney are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
