LONG HILL TWP. – Rep Leonard Lance, R-7, will hold a Town Hall Meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20, at Town Hall, 917 Valley Road, Gillette.
Lance just came back from a congressional fact finding tour of the Mexican-American border. He viewed border security infrastructure and spoke to enforcement personnel in San Diego, Calif., Tucson, Ariz., and McAllen and Harlingen, Texas.
The GOP congressman is on record in support of requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship.
“I oppose amnesty, support securing our borders and requiring businesses to use the E-Verify background check system,” said Lance, who voted for H R 5855, which made appropriations for $800 million to build 53 miles of border fencing at a cost of $15.1 million per mile and $1.5 billion for identifying and removing immigrants from the United States. Every New Jersey Democrat opposed that legislation, as did 16 Republicans and 166 congressional Democrats.
Although he acknowledges that New Jersey has the highest property tax burden in the nation, Lance has been a vocal opponent to President Obama’s plan to raise taxes on Americans making $250,000 or more.
Once considered a moderate, lance has taken a sharp turn to the extreme right wing of the Republican Party.
“After serving 19 years in the state Legislature, Lance has moved steadily to the right since he started drinking the water in Washington after winning his seat in 2008,” wrote Star-Ledger columnist Tom Moran. “
