Paper Mill Playhouse Schedules Open Auditions For Children

MILLBURN — Paper Mill Playhouse will hold an open call audition for children for the theater’s production of Oliver! on Saturday, Sept. 7. Paper Mill Playhouse seeks boys (or girls who can play boys) who look ages 10 to 14 to play orphans in the production’s opening number and for the role of “Oliver.”

Audition signup will take place in the theater’s lobby on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturday, Sept. 7, beginning at 9 a.m. Children and their guardian should join the line in front of the theater (22 Brookside Drive, Millburn) and enter through the front doors of the theater only. Every child should bring a picture and resume stapled together.

Children will be taught a short piece of music from the show and should wear appropriate footwear as they may be asked to dance. Callbacks will be held on the same day. Depending on the number of children auditioning, there is no guarantee everyone will be seen.

Oliver! will run at the Millburn theater from Nov. 21 through Dec. 29, (Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day off). Rehearsals begin Monday, Oct. 28 in New York City.

“Students who have appeared on the Paper Mill Playhouse stage have gone on to have major careers on stage, in movies and on television,” commented Mark S. Hoebee, Paper Mill Playhouse’s Producing Artistic Director. “This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to be a part of a professional production and perform on the legendary Paper Mill stage.”
