SCOTCH PLAINS — Oasis-Church-NJ.com, a  non-denominational, casual church that meets for Sunday services in both Scotch Plains and South Plainfield, is partnering with Love for Kitui, a non-profit organization that is helping to feed, clothe, school and shelter orphans in the impoverished village of Kitui, Kenya.

One of Oasis’ own members, Carrie Vermillion, 25, visited the rural community on a trip she took in 2010, and came back with a vision to help Kutui’s needy orphans. She helped to create Love for Kitui, in hopes meeting the physical and spiritual needs of its orphans.

There are currently 37 orphans in Kitui. These are orphans who have lost both parents due to sickness or abandonment and have been taken in by family members or members of the community. Love for Kitui and Oasis Church is seeking to cover all school fees including uniforms, and to provide funding for food, shelter, and any medical needs. The cost to cover all of these needs for each child is only $170 dollars for the entire year. The non-profit is selling wristbands bands at $10 a piece, with 100% of all proceeds going to the kids. Oasis Church Lead Pastor Dave Butler said, “Although what we are doing is very small in comparison with the great needs in the world, it is in line with our vision at Oasis to refresh the world by compassionately sharing Jesus and His love with hurting and hungry people here in NJ and everywhere. Carrie’s vision and passion for hurting people is an example of what one person can do. Imagine if we all pooled our resources together to help the less fortunate?”

Oasis Church currently meets weekly on Sundays 11 a.m. at Snuffy’s Pantagis at 250 Park Scotch Plains and on Aug. 25 at 10 a.m.  at the Regal Hadley Cinema Theater Stadium in South Plainfield (next to Target). Beginning Sept. 15, the 10 a.m. services at the Regal Cinema occur weekly.
