NEWARK – The NHL could take over the New Jersey Devils for the 2013-14 hockey season unless the team finds a buyer soon, Forbes reported today.
Forbes says that the Devils have $230 million in debt and owner Jeff Vanderbeek missed a payment on a bank loan.
While neither the Devils nor the NHL would comment to Forbes on its report, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly told CSN Philly reporter Tim Panaccio, “To the extent it suggests that League is intending to take over the Club, it is inaccurate.”
On Wednesday, 94 WIP Radio reporter Howard Eskin said that Phildelphia 76ers owner Josh Harris and his ownership group were interested in acquiring the Devils.
