PERTH AMBOY – The city will host a National Night Out Against Crime celebration at Waters Stadium at Francis Street and Eagle Avenue on Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 6-9 p.m.

National Night Out is a police-community awareness-raising event, first held in 1984, that is generally celebrated on the first Tuesday of August. It is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada.

The event is meant to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts, according to the Perth Amboy Police Department.

The introduction of National Night Out, “America’s Night Out Against Crime”, in 1984 began an effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
