Train Crew Members Injured While Trying To Break Up Melee

PERTH AMBOY – Three NJ Transit train crew members were injured when they tried to break up a fight among passengers returning from a Colombian Independence Day festival in Elizabeth Sunday night, according to an NJ.com report.

Seven people were arrested as the result of the fight, which took place aboard a North Jersey Coast Line train around 9 p.m. as it entered the Perth Amboy station. Isadlas Taveras of Parlin, Gustavo Villatoro of Tinton Falls and Brenda Almanzar of Perth Amboy, all 21, and Devante Marquez, 19, Evelyn Lopez, 25, Julio Lopez, 23, and Sayvond Lawrence, 18, all of Long Branch, were charged with disorderly conduct, interfering with transportation and inciting a riot. Taveras and Villatoro also were charged with aggravated assault on a train conductor and simple assault, according to the report.

The train crew members were treated at Raritan Bay Medical Center and released.
