UNION COUNTY – The freeholder board passed a resolution at its last meeting directing the Union County Improvement Authority to begin marketing Runnells Specialized Hospital, according to a Union News Daily report.
The 300-bed facility in Berkeley Heights operates at a deficit caused by declining federal Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement rates, according to the report, forcing county taxpayers to subsidize costs. The sale of the hospital could generate as much as $25.8 million and add additional tax revenue, the report said.
