Plainfield Murder Suspect Arrested In Connecticut

PLAINFIELD — The suspect in the fatal stabbing of Ricardo Castro was arrested in Danbury, Conn., yesterday morning, according to Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park.

Samuel Mata, 38, is charged with first degree murder and is being held on $2 million bail, according to authorities. His arrest came about as the result of an investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force.

On June 29, at approximately 5:45p.m., the Plainfield Police Department received a call about a man with a knife at an address on the 700 block of West Front Street. When officers arrived, they found Castro, 36, suffering from a stab wound.  He was airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 7:09 p.m, said Park.

The charges against Mata are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
