RAHWAY — Those fifty or so folks you saw staring earnestly at the ground on Hamilton Street in Rahway last Friday night weren’t looking for a lost lottery ticket.
They were searching for immortality.
All had purchased a specially-inscribed, commemorative brick to become charter supporters of Hamilton Stage, New Jersey’s newest theatre complex and a companion venue with Union County Performing Arts Center in the heart of the Rahway Arts District.
The brick unveiling preceded another signature event: the inaugural Rahway Film Festival that drew a sell-out crowd to view a lively mix of award-winning films from New Jersey and seven foreign countries.
“Even though it opened just last fall, Hamilton Stage has already become home to a very diverse and innovative group of artists,” said Sondra Fishinger, president of the Union County Performing Arts Center Board of Trustees.
“With the first-year anniversary of Hamilton Stage coming in September, we want people to know they can still play an important role in putting their imprint on this new organization.”
Individual, business and civic donors may buy 4×8-inch bricks for a $150 donation and 8×8-inch bricks at a $250 level.
Purchasing a brick at Hamilton Stage delivers full membership in Union County Performing Arts Center’s Griffin Society and additional subscriber privileges for the full range of year-round programs.
