Perth Amboy Man Accused Of Old Bridge Woman’s Murder Faces New Charge

NEW BRUNSWICK – The Perth Amboy man charged with the 2010 sexual assault and murder of an Old Bridge woman now faces a new charge in an indictment handed up on Wednesday, according to an report.

Robert Hayes, 36, was originally indicted for murder, felony murder, aggravated sexual assault, burglary, arson, hindering his own apprehension or prosecution and hindering a police investigation. He is now charged with desecration of human remains as well.

Authorities say that Hayes raped and murdered 52-year-old Petra Rohrbaugh in her bedroom and set it on fire to hide the crime.

The charges against Hayes are merely accusations; he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
