PERTH AMBOY – Last Thursday’s Board of Education meeting, which was suspended after a fire alarm went off, will resume at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, in the auditorium of the William C. McGinnis School, 271 State Street, Perth Amboy.
A number of parents had come out on Thursday to protest Superintendent Janine Caffrey’s decision to schedule this year’s commencement ceremony for 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, even though it had traditionally been held in the evening. Some speculated about the “convenient” timing of the alarm.
Caffrey said that she made the decision out of heat-related health concerns, but those who are against the time change argue that it will make it difficult or impossible for some parents to see their children graduate.
