Mary Ryzuk performs as Ethel Merman, Broadway Diva, on Tuesday, July 2, at 1:30 p.m. Enjoy this musical adventure through the life of Ethel Merman. “Yiddish Theatre Music and American Popular Music” Dr. Mark Kligman, Professor of Jewish Musicology at Hebrew Union College, will continue to trace the influence of Yiddish music on the American music scene on Tuesday, July 9, at 10:30 a.m. Through audio and video examples this presentation will illustrate the many contributions of Jews to the post World War II popular music field. On Tuesday, July 9,  at 1:30 p.m., Bill Levy, will discuss his new book, Lest We Forget, The John Ford Stock Company . John Ford directed scores of memorable movies and this book spotlights members of Ford’s fluid repertory company who made substantial contributions to John Ford’s movie legacy. Bridge for the Modern Player taught by Gil Hollander is designed to help those who already play to improve and have more fun. Basic techniques in bidding and play will be reviewed and practiced. Modern approaches and conventions to be taught include Two Over One, New Minor Forcing, Puppet Stayman, Roman Key Card, Blackwood, Bergen Raises and Splinter Bids. Class time will be divided between instruction and supervised play. Class will be held Mondays, July 15, 22, 29, August 5, 12 & 19 from 3:30-5:30pm at the JCC of Middlesex County, 1775 Oak Tree road, Edison. Duplicate Bridge is held every Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center of Middlesex County, Edison. Directed by Al Steinberger, players are welcome to come alone or with a partner. “Music and Events of the 1960s” will be presented on Tuesdays, July 16 & July 23, by David Aaron, musician, band leader and lecturer. The first session will offer music and historical events from 1960-64. The second session will pick up with The Jackson 5, Bobby Darin, Simon & Garfunkle and the assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King. Held at the JCC of Middlesex County, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison, the cost is $22/16 for Community Campus members for the two sessions and $13/$10 for a single lecture. Seth Dale Magic combines magic, mentalism, comedy and lots of audience interaction. Performing on Tuesday, July 16, at 1:30 p.m. at the JCC of Middlesex County, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison, the program is free and open to the community as space allows. Turned On To Opera presented by Richard Ferris on Tuesday, July 30, at 10 a.m. will be held at the JCC of Middlesex County, 1775 oak Tree Road, Edison. After more than four centuries, opera continues to attract large and enthusiastic audiences, however is opera able to compete with other forms of entertainment in our pop culture dominated society? Join Richard Ferris as he addresses opera and its place in the future of our musical culture. The fee is $11/$8 for Community Campus members.

Bill Levy returns to present Musical Forgotten Gems, Parts I & II on Tuesdays, July 30 and August 6, at 1:30pm. Held at the JCC of Middlesex County, Edison, NJ the fee for the 2 part series is $22/$16for Community Campus members and $13/$10 for each single presentation. Laughing for the Health of it! Jolliologist and Certified Laughter Yoga instructor, Diana Perez will have you laughing out loud as she demonstrates the power of laughter, and how it boosts your mood and adds more optimism to your life. This program is sponsored by BrightStar Homecare and by Sunrise/Brighton Gardens of Edison and is free and open to the community as space allows. Lazy, Hazy Summer Tuesday on August 20, with brunch at 11 a.m. followed by a lively musical performance with Barbara Harris. End our summer programming with a relaxing meal, upbeat music and plenty of time to catch up with friends new and old. The fee is $19/$16 Community Campus members until August 14 and $22/$19 Community Campus members from Aug 15-19. TRIP TO THE HUNTERDON HILLS PLAYHOUSE to be held Thursday, August 15, 2013. The coach bus will leave the JCC, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison, promptly at 9:45 am and travel to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse for a delicious lunch, sumptuous dessert buffet and a fun-filled musical revue entitled “the Great American Songbook 4”. ATLANTIC CITY TRIPS
Whether you like to play the slots, sit at the blackjack tables or stroll on the boardwalk, a fun-filled day awaits on Mondays, July 22, and August 19, 2013. The bus leaves the Community Campus, 1775 Oak Tree Road, Edison, at 8:45am, travels to Showboat Casino and leaves Atlantic City at 5pm. The cost is $27/person and entitles you to a Casino Bonus. All those 18 years of age or older are welcome. Advance registration is recommended and choice of bus seat is made at time of payment.
