MIDDLESEX COUNTY — Dozens of Middlesex County elected officials endorsed U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone (D-6th Dist.) for the Democratic nomination for United States Senator in the August 13 special election primary.
Among those endorsing Pallone were all five county freeholders, two state senators, five assemblymen and the mayors of New Brunswick, South Amboy, Woodbridge, Highland Park, Carteret, Metuchen and Piscataway.
County Clerk Elaine Flynn and Surrogate Kevin Hoagland also pledged their support to Pallone, who has represented New Jersey in Congress since 1988 and was among the principal sponsors of Obamacare.
Middlesex is among the most critical counties in Democratic primary elections, with Pallone is competing with Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-Essex), U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (D-12th Dist.) and Newark Mayor Cory Booker in the August 13 Democratic special Senate primary to replace the late Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.).
The same day, forces loyal to South Jersey political boss George Norcross announced their support for Booker’s U.S. Senate candidacy, including State Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney and State Assembly Majority Leader Louis D. Greenwald.
