St. Peter’s Prep Holds Commencement

JERSEY CITY — Saint Peter’s Preparatory School celebrated its 135th Commencement at Saint Peter’s University on Saturday, June 15, 2013. Of the 197 graduates, the following are local residents:

Berkeley Heights: Richard Budka, son of Louise and Richard Budka, will attend Boston College. Brian Rabasca, son of Ellen and Michael Rabasca, will attend Hobart and William Smith Colleges. His brother Michael will attend Ithaca College.

Clark: Kevin Sheridan, son of Nancy and Thomas Sheridan, will attend Boston College.

Cranford: Michael Dombrowski, son of Mary and Thomas Dombrowski, will attend The University of Scranton. Edward Duffy, son of Caroline and Joseph Duffy, will attend Pennsylvania State University. Ryan McGann, son of Jennifer and Ronald McGann, will attend Fordham University. John Paradiso, son of Maria and David Paradiso, will attend Boston College. Ian Smith, son of Denise O’Donoghue-Smith and Mark Smith, will attend Rutgers, The State University, New Brunswick.

Elizabeth: Danny Cruz, Jr., son of Silena Shuta and Danny Cruz, will attend Saint Peter’s University.

Fanwood: Joseph Palasits, son of Denise and Thomas Palasits, will attend Fairfield University.

New Providence: Brian Toner, son of Tzu-lin and Patrick Toner, will attend The College of the Holy Cross.

North Plainfield: Trejon Dinkins, son of Keisha Puryear and Reed Puryear, will attend the University of Delaware. Bryan Thomas, son of Lynnelle and Kobina Thomas, will attend Saint John’s University.

Plainfield: Andrew Newman, son of Anne Vardy-Newman, will attend Pennsylvania State University. Matthew Newman, his brother, will attend Providence College. Douglas Tortorici, son of Joy Weber and Jeffrey Burke, will attend The College of the Holy Cross. Randall Wall, nephew of Aretha Hughes-Berry and Deavaul Berry, will attend the University of Connecticut.

Rahway: L.A. Smith III, son of Judy Berlier-Smith and Al Smith, will attend San Jose State University.

Roselle Park: Declan Cunningham, son of Alice and Patrick Cunningham, will attend Rider University. Gabrial Fischer, son of Karen and Alben Fischer, is undecided. Michael Oro, son of Ann Marie and Rafael Oro, will attend Kean University.

Union: Marion Tre’ Bell, son of Vivian and Marion Bell III, will attend Vanderbilt University. Drew Casey, son of Randi and Richard Casey, will attend Fordham University. Daniel Tanelli, son of Dulce and Frank Tanelli, will attend University of Rhode Island. Patrick Whelan, son of Ivanova Araujo and Tom Whelan, will attend Syracuse University.

Westfield: Joseph Burke, son of Desiree and James Burke, will attend Washington and Lee University. John Charles Callinan, son of Christy and John Callinan, will attend Boston College. Brian Githens, son of Anna Marie Githens and John Githens, will attend Lehigh University. William Lavelle, son of Linda and William Lavelle, will attend Boston College. Daniel Mahler, son of Karen Mahler and Stephen Mahler, will attend Binghampton University. Kevin Mikovits, son of Lisa and Raymond Mikovits, will attend Georgetown University. James Reynolds, son of Margarita and Philip Reynolds, will attend the United States Naval Academy. Tyler Schiavo, son of Ann and Anthony Schiavo, will attend Loyola University Maryland.

The following received awards at graduation: James Reynolds of Westfield was recognized as a National Honor Society Commended Scholar and an honoree of the National Hispanic Recognition Scholars Program. John Paradiso of Cranford won the Gold Medal in Creative Writing. Ryan McGann, also of Cranford, was the 2013 Hudson County Interscholastic Athletic League’s Scholar-Athlete. Gabrial Fischer won the Silver Medal in Computer Science.

Drew Casey of Union won the Silver Medal for General Excellence and the Kachel memorial Scholar-Athlete Award. Randall Wall of Plainfield was recognized for four years of perfect attendance. Danny Cruz of Elizabeth was recognized for four years of perfect attendance.
