ELIZABETH – A 34-year-old Roselle man who was shot by Elizabeth police in March plans to sue the department, according to an NJ.com report.

A lawyer for Sharif Tankard noted that a Union County grand jury declined to indict his client on any charges. Tankard has undergone 10 operations since being shot and may still lose his leg, according to his attorney.

The grand jury determined that the officer’s use of deadly force was legally justified, but according to Tankard’s attorney that will not prevent a civil action.
