LINDEN – Police arrested a 22-year-old Linden man who allegedly had a sawed-off shotgun on railroad property on East Baltimore Avenue on Sunday night.
Chad Shaquille Hill was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon, as well as a trespassing complaint for being on railroad property, police said.
Officer Javier Perez was on patrol when he observed two men acting suspiciously at approximately 10:50 p.m. on June 16. One man was wearing a hooded sweatshirt which had a large bulge near the waist. When the man looked at the officer, he pulled his sweatshirt down to cover the bulge.
Perez was aware of recent shootings in the area and called for backup. When the backup officer arrived to assist, the men were told to approach the officers, and Perez noticed that the man no longer had the bulge. When the officer went to where the men had been standing, he found a sawed-off Mossberg 12 gauge shotgun on the ground.
The other man was released at the scene with a trespassing complaint.
The charges are merely accusations and the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
