ASBURY PARK – New Jersey residents and families will join the Sierra Club to march down the Asbury Park boardwalk today for the second annual Global Wind Day. Community members will call on Gov. Chris Christie to move offshore wind energy projects forward.
Two weeks ago President Barack Obama joined Christie in Asbury Park, following a coastal survey of New Jersey’s Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts. Both leaders failed to significantly address climate change, and Christie went so far as to call climate change “a distraction” during a later interview about the visit.
Christie signed the Offshore Wind Economic Development Act which would allow for up to 1,100 megawatts of this renewable resource to be developed along the New Jersey coast. The governor’s administration is moving forward regulations to finance offshore wind. This action will call on Governor Christie to take offshore wind over the finish line.
