STATE – Gov. Chris Christie and state Sen. Barbara Buono will face each other in November’s gubernatorial election, after each easily won virtually uncontested primaries.
Votes are still being counted, but Christie holds an overwhelming advantage over little-known and underfunded conservative Republican Seth Grossman in the G.O.P. primary, while Buono has a similar lead over token candidate Troy Webster, who was running mainly to secure a better ballot position for East Orange Mayor Robert Bowser in his re-election bid.
Christie has raised over twice as much campaign money as Buono and is the early favorite in November according to polls, but the U.S. Senate primary and special election scheduled for August and October could alter the dynamic of the gubernatorial race.
