EAST BRUNSWICK – Playhouse 22’s next production, The Grapes of Wrath, opens Friday, June 7 at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center. The show runs through June 23. All performances are Friday evenings at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.

Directed by Tony Adase, The Grapes of Wrath is a Depression-era play based on the writings of John Steinbeck. Set during the Great Depression, the novel focuses on the Joads, a poor family of tenant farmers driven from their Oklahoma home by drought, economic hardship, and changes in financial and agricultural industries. Due to their nearly hopeless situation, and in part because they were trapped in the Dust Bowl, the Joads set out for California. Along with thousands of other “Okies”, they sought jobs, land, dignity, and a future.

Portions of the opening weekend ticket sales will go to the American Red Cross to help those affected by the Oklahoma tornado.

Tickets are $20/adults and $18/seniors and student and are available online at Playhouse22.org, by calling the Box Office at 732-254-3939 or at the Box Office window. Playhouse 22 is East Brunswick’s Community Theater troupe and located at the East Brunswick Community Arts Center at 721 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.
