UNION COUNTY – The Jewish War Veterans of Post 273, serving Union County and Southern Essex County recently made two $5,000 donations to the East Orange and Lyons Veterans Hospitals following Memorial Day at the East Orange Veterans Hospital.
With the hospital museum as the backdrop, the checks were presented to Kenneth H. Mizrach, Medical Center Director for the Lyons and East Orange VA Hospitals, Mary Beth Hynoski, Lyons Voluntary Service Program Manager and Thelma Miller, East Orange Voluntary Service Specialist by JWV Post 273 members Richard Shipman, Post Commander, Korean War Era Veteran from West Orange, Myron Katz, Post Vice Commander, Korean War Combat Veteran from Springfield, Dr. Howard Kessler, Post Quartermaster, Vietnam Era Veteran from Cranford and Major (Retired) Marc Krauss, Post Member, Operation Iraqi Freedom Combat Veteran from Springfield.
“We are extremely appreciative of the members of the Jewish War Veterans, Post 273, for their recent donation to the VA New Jersey Health Care System. Our nation’s heroes will benefit greatly from this kind gift,” said Kenneth Mizrach, Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs New Jersey Health Care System.
The donations will go into the general fund that supports immediate needs of veterans. Prior JWV donations to the VA Hospitals included telephone calling cards for patients at each hospital, a flat screen TVs for the Palliative Care Ward at Lyons, Specialized Equipment for East Orange, and over $1000 for special events for veterans.
Richard Shipman, JWV Post 273 Commander, simply stated, “Giving back to our fellow veterans is the least we can do, they deserve it,”
The members of JWV Post 273 are active participants in the VA Volunteer Service organization. The JWV are looked upon as a great resource of volunteers and funds that care for the hospitalized veterans in over 90 VA installations. Working together with other veteran organizations, the JWV strives to improve the quality life and care of their fellow veterans regardless of faith or affiliation.
