Remembering the Past by Diane Norek Harrisonby Diane Norek Harrison

WOODBRIDGE-Veterans of World War II and all servicemen and women on furlough of leave were invited to participate in the May 31, 1945 Memorial Day Parade. Capt. Raymond Moore served as Grand Marshal, assisted by Francis L. Bader and Michael Langan.

The first parade ever held in the Hopelawn section of Woodbridge took place on May 30, 1948 in observation of Memorial Day. The parade formed at Hopelawn School for a 1 o’clock march. Rudy Toth, Sr. was in charge.

The Woodbridge Post, American Legion Band made its first public appearance on May 31, 1948 in the Woodbridge Memorial Day Parade.

I know it’s months away, but I’m always looking for contributors with wintertime and Christmas memories from Middlesex and Union counties for my December columns. Please contact me with what you remember by Oct. 1. Do you have memories or old photos from Woodbridge? I’m looking for all to share in my column!

If you have your own memories of the past in Middlesex or Union counties, email me at or send copies of your material to me c/o CMD Media, 1139 East Jersey St., Suite 503, Elizabeth NJ 07201
