CLARK – Girl Scout Brownie Troops 40537 and 40549 from Frank K. Hehnly Elementary School paid tribute to the American Flag at their last meeting.  North Plainfield Fire Department Deputy Chief, Lane Solon, visited the girls to teach them the proper way to honor the American Flag.  Solon, who is also a Girl Scout leader outdoor camp skills trainer and troop leader for his daughter’s troop, reviewed the history of the American flag, the proper way to handle the flag, fold the flag, salute the flag and how to conduct a flag ceremony.  The girls took turns in the roles of flag bearer, color guard and Girl Scout caller in the opening and closing of the flag ceremony.  The third graders are preparing for their “Bridging Over to Juniors” ceremony in June.  Pictured are the two troops with Deputy Chief Solon.  (Photo courtesy of Hehnly School)
