CLARK — Middle school and high school students will have an opportunity to learn about the world of sports broadcasting when the Clark Recreation Sports Broadcasting Camp returns for its third year this summer.
The camp will be held June 24-28 at the Clark Recreation Center on Westfield Avenue in Clark. It is open to all students, male and female, ages 11 and older.
During camp week, students will gain insight into areas such as play-by-play announcing, sports talk show hosting, TV anchoring, game preparation, writing and interviewing skills, professional presentation, and more. The week-long session concludes with campers anchoring their own five minute sportscast and performing play-by-play of a Somerset Patriots minor league baseball game. The camp also takes a road trip to a major sports and TV facility in the area.
Over the past two summers, prominent national and local sports personalities have visited the camp including: Matt Loughlin (WFAN), Kenny Albert (FOX/ESPN Radio), Frank DeGraci (YES Network), Dave Popkin (NEC/WABC/ESPN Regional/MSG Varsity), Adam Amin (Somerset Patriots/ESPN), Matt Harmon (Shore Sports Network/MSG Varsity), Joey Wahler (WFAN/News 12), and Matt Yallof (MLB Network).
The camp is instructed by local sportscaster Craig D’Amico. D’Amico is an elementary school teacher in Cranford and has served as an on air talent with Pack Network and the Northeast Conference since 2008.
Registration for the 2013 Clark SBC is now open. Camp space is limited. Interested students who are not residents of Clark may still register and join the camp.
