ELIZABETH — Following a 9-week trial, a Union County jury convicted Victor Russ of all 27 counts of his indictment on Monday, including the 2009 murder of the owner of the Skylark Liquor Store in Roselle, according to Union County First Assistant Prosecutor Albert Cernadas, Jr.
Russ was also convicted of felony murder, six counts of armed robbery and various weapon and aggravated assault offenses.
In addition to the armed robbery and murder of Jitendra Parikh, members of the Homicide Task Force were able to link Russ and his co-defendant Jimmy Session to at least five other unsolved robberies in other jurisdictions, including Elizabeth, Roselle, North Arlington, and Millburn. The initial break in the investigation came when, after an exhaustive search of EZ- Pass records and video, investigators were able to identify the automobile utilized by the defendants in the robberies. Search warrants executed at the time of Russ and Session’s arrests also led to the discovery of identifiable proceeds from at least one of the robberies.
Earlier, Session, pled to a 25-year sentence and testified at the trial.
The case was originally investigated by Det. Brian Fech of Linden P.D. (then assigned to the Homicide Task Force) and Sgt. Tom Nugent. Since 2011, Rob Henderson of the Homicide Task Force has been assigned as the case detective, including for the trial.
