Linden Police Arrest Elizabeth Man On Weapons Charges

LINDEN — Friday night, Linden police officers arrested a 19-year-old Elizabeth man on weapons charges while on patrol near the 1100 block of Charles Street.

Shaheed S. Sloane was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun; unlawful possession of hollow-point ammunition; certain persons not to possess weapons; and possession of marijuana under 50 grams.

On April 12 at 11:49 p.m., officers Rick Bachmann and Joseph Rivera were on a park and walk patrol The officers encountered two men, one of who was carrying a duffel bag. The man carrying the bag, later identified as  Sloane, dropped the bag when he saw the officers and the two men walked away to a parked car nearby.

The officers shone their flashlight into the duffel bag and observed a black handgun. The officers stopped the men and placed Sloane under arrest. Inside the bag was a Glock .40 caliber handgun loaded with 12 rounds of hollow-point ammunition. Also in the bag was a small amount of marijuana.

Sloane was being held on $36,000.00 bail pending a county court date.  Sloane’s companion, Kareem K. Pritchett, age 27, of Newark, was also arrested on an Elizabeth contempt warrant and later released from custody.

The charges are merely accusations and suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
