Remembering The Past: Edison And Woodbridge Memories

Remembering the Past by Diane Norek Harrison

Memories from Walt Mezynski: “I just came across your article from 2011 about the area. I spent many a day and night at Highland Grove Swim Club. My family belonged for years. Woodbridge Swim Club was known as Gaddaks (?), Billy Gaddak and family. We used to go to the dances at Highland Grove, Gaddaks, Pines, whatever the Edison Elks was before Edison Elks and Our Lady of Peace CYO. There was a dance every night of the week in the summers of the 1950s and 1960s.

“I remember the pet store in Menlo Park, but not the name. There was also a food store there. I sold pretzels in Menlo Park for Snuffy.

“I also remember these businesses in Fords: Fords Bakery, the lines were out the doors, the slot car track, Fords theater, the bowling alley, Haps Sweet Shop and Amaco.

“I went to School 14 to 3rd grade, School 25 3rd to 6th, Fords Jr. High and then we moved to North Edison – I had the best of both worlds.”
