LINDEN – Police are investigating a shooting incident that took place after midnight on Sunday morning which left a 21-year-old Newark man injured, according to authorities.
Linden police received a report of a disorderly group at Jersey Lanes on North Park Avenue and officers responded at 12:40 a.m. An off-duty county sheriff’s officer working security for the bowling alley told the arriving officers that he was told of a possible fight in the parking lot. When he went to investigate, he saw a man standing in the center of the lot fire a handgun at least three times. The suspect fled the parking lot and the officer lost sight of him.
Linden police dispersed the group and searched for evidence of the shooting or a victim, but were unable to locate anything.
Approximately a half hour later, University Hospital in Newark notified Linden police that they were treating a shooting victim who said that he had been injured at a bowling alley in Linden. Officers went to interview the shooting victim, but were unable to learn any more. The victim was treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder area, and doctors said that the injury was not life-threatening according to police.
