Perth Amboy Police Pull Man Off Victory Bridge

PERTH AMBOY — Police officers were able to prevent an intoxicated 33-year-old man from jumping off of the Victory Bridge on Saturday morning.

The Perth Amboy Police Department received a report of a man on the bridge at 10:30 a.m. on April 6. The heavyset Hispanic man was standing on the ledge of the outerside guardrail when Sgt. William Tiedgen. The sergeant attempted to talk the man off of the ledge for over an hour, but he was depressed and would not listen to reason, according to police.

When the man tried to jump, Tiedgen held him and additional officers were able to pull him back over the railing. The man was taken to Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy.

Tiedgen, Perth Amboy Police officers Terence Doran and Robert Estrada, and NJ State Trooper Sgt. Boag sustained injuries as a result of this incident.
