CLARK — The eighth grade students in Mrs. McGeehan and Ms. Drasin’s math class at Carl H. Kumpf Middle School in Clark just started a unit on 3-D Geometry. As an introduction, students made different 3-D figures out of unit cubes and counted them to find the volume of the figure. After they found the volume by counting, they applied their knowledge to derive a volume formula for each figure. This activity allowed the students to better understand what volume is and why it is measured in ‘cubed units.’ In the picture above, Alyse Wilson, Raymond Williamson, Gabrielle Kaczan and Ed Lasinski create a rectangular prism.
