METUCHEN — A teenage employee of a sports facility in Metuchen has been charged with improperly touching a 7-year-old girl, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Chief Robin Retenberg of the Metuchen Police Department announced today.
The teenage boy, whose identity and age were not released, was charged on April 2 with juvenile delinquency for sexually assaulting and endangering the welfare of the girl.
An investigation began after the girl’s mother contacted police on April 1, reporting that her daughter was improperly touched earlier in the day at the SMG Sportsplex in Metuchen. The investigation showed that the teenage boy had been working at the complex since August 2012.
The teenager was being held at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center in North Brunswick following a Family Court hearing in New Brunswick today before Superior Court Judge James F. Hyland.
The teenage boy was charged during the investigation by Detective Peter Knoll of the Metuchen Police Department and Investigator Jeffrey Maroccia of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation is continuing. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Knoll of the Metuchen Police Department at 1-732-632-8500, or Investigator Maroccia of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 1-732-745-3600.
